The original Oyster was founded in 2012 in New York City by Eric Stromberg, Andrew Brown, and Willem Van Lancker. It launched its e-book service in 2013, offering readers access to a growing digital library through a subscription-based model. Over the following years, Oyster expanded across multiple platforms, introduced its own e-book store, and built a library of more than one million titles. In 2015, the company entered into an acquisition arrangement with Google, and the original Oyster service was subsequently discontinued in early 2016.
In 2024, the Oyster brand entered a new chapter.
We acquired the Oyster brand and relaunched it with a renewed focus on authors and the modern publishing landscape. Today, Oyster Book Publishing is a ghostwriting and book publishing agency based in Allen, Texas, helping aspiring and established authors turn ideas, manuscripts, and life experiences into professionally developed books.
